Question about the 1hour per move time formats etc..
-
So, I've been playing mostly on bga/yucata. There are two ways of playing that I'm experienced with:
(1) Classical async gaming with a 1/2 move per day (8-12 hours per move increment).
(2) Real-time live gaming with like a few minutes per move increment. The shortest time format for async on bga is 4 moves per day, I found that unreasonable because of timezone problems. Basically if someone made a move as I was going to sleep. I wouldn't be able to play for like 8-10 hours. And then the timer would tick.
But here, most of the games have a 1 day + 1 hour timer, which I find mind-boggling. I've joined a few +6 hour increment games, but they are rare.
What I don't understand about the 1day+1hr format is, is it supposed to be live? or async? should I be supposed to stay online for the rest of the day in case it happens to be my turn? If I play a move and one of my opponent decides to take a deepthink. should I be forced to stay online? I don't understand that time format, because I have never seen anything like it. At least I know that live games on this sites are obviously 5 minutes increment, etc... Although I find that to be a bit high, compared to other live sites.
I'm curious on everyone's thoughts on this. Since 1day+1hr is the most popular by far, it must be doing something right, and people are fine with it. But I don't get it, maybe there is a meta reason for that? maybe I would understand if I'd give it a try. but I find it too risky to join a game that I'm not 100% sure that I wouldn't get timed-out.

@nmego it is meant for Quick asynch as you may have noticed those games usually have a time interval marked which tells you when the timer will be active, usually it set so that the timer is only active during game creator’s daytime so that the clock stops during night time, this gives plenty of time to finish games even making only a couple moves a day.

makes sense, thanks for clarifying.
